WWE TLC 2016 is looking to be one of the more intriguing events of the year. With the end of 2016 coming close and the start of WrestleMania season right around the corner, old rivalries will have their final chapter. One of those rivalries is between the Miz and Dolph Ziggler for the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

Considering the history behind the careers of both men, a ladder match seems like the perfect venue for their feud that started shortly after SummerSlam in August. For months, the two have defeated the other for the Intercontinental Championship. They know each other very well and have had a number of five-star quality matches in their overall history.

While they came from different backgrounds, they have similar roads to the WWE. Both had to come from the bottom of the talent tier to become established veterans with impressive championship resumes. Both were also natives of Cleveland, Ohio; a city that craves to have champions representing their community.

But with months of facing each other, the SmackDown Live management have decided that this will be the last time these two will face each other at WWE TLC. When looking at what could be possible as the WWE moves towards next month’s Royal Rumble, Miz winning would be the better option.

First, a win for Ziggler leaves a rematch clause possible that makes the whole “final chapter” angle Besides that, the following are three valid reasons explaining why Miz should defeat Ziggler for the WWE Intercontinental Championship at WWE TLC 2016.

3. The Intercontinental Championship Must Have Consistent Champion

There have often been championships that have changed hands a few times within a month or two. It’s okay if it helps a storyline go farther. However, there are times when it might become a little much. Short title reigns can make a championship feel more like the item being used in a game of Hot Potato.

Having Dolph Ziggler reclaim the WWE Intercontinental Championship would be the third separate reign in less than three months. Ziggler defeated Miz for the title in a “Title vs. Career” match at No Mercy. But the reign was only 37 days before Miz reclaimed the championship on the 900th episode of SmackDown on Nov. 15.

Before that, Miz did hold the Intercontinental Championship for 188 days after defeating Zack Ryder. But before that, the title changed hands a number of times within months of each other. For example, Ryder held the title for just one night after the upset ladder match win at WrestleMania 32.

Going a little more than a year ago, Kevin Owens had the title for less than three months before dropping the title to Dean Ambrose, who then dropped it back to Owens after about two months. Owens’ second run with the title was even less before the WrestleMania 32 ladder match. While Miz might have some critics, it would be good for the championship if he held it for an extended period of time.

    2. Dolph Ziggler Open for WWE World Championship Pursuit

Admittedly, Dolph Ziggler in the WWE World Champions picture might seem a little improbable for the time being. But it would make sense considering that the storyline says this will be the “last” match between Miz and Ziggler. While someone like Ziggler can certainly help provide a boost for the WWE Intercontinental Championship, he could actually be an asset moving forward.

Ignoring any of the rumors that might circulate about the future opponents for AJ Styles’ WWE World Championship, Ziggler could provide a quality opponent for the Phenomenal One in a main event caliber match. It would provide fans with a different kind of championship match than what we’ve seen for the last few months. The feud between Miz and Ziggler isn’t the only one that should have its final chapter at WWE TLC.

Ambrose and Styles have been battling each other for the WWE World Championship since the Backlash event in September. While they are both two of the best in today’s WWE and deserve to be in the main event, a different challenger is needed. If the WWE decides not to go with the rumored Undertaker vs Styles storyline for the Royal Rumble, Ziggler would be a perfect choice.

Considering the wrestling techniques from both men, there’s a very good chance that a 20 minute bout between Styles and Ziggler would steal the show.

      1. Continuing Miz’s Feud with GM Daniel Bryan

While AJ Styles is the villain holding the WWE World Championship, the Miz is arguably a better heel for SmackDown Live’s roster. A storyline that seemed to have gained a lot of attention in recent months was the Talking Smack segment where Miz called out Daniel Bryan. The blue brand’s general manager had been critical of the WWE Intercontinental Champion for months.

Miz finally lost it in the segment on the WWE Network. It was one of those moments that blurred the lines between kayfabe and reality. As Miz continue to successfully defend the title after that, the two had segments that centered based on their long history. Who’s to say there can’t be additional tension between the two as Miz goes on a lengthy run with the title.

This can continue through WrestleMania and could actually be the set up for a call up from NXT. The night after WrestleMania is usually the big night for new debuts on the main roster. While Bryan isn’t physically able to compete in a match with Miz, he could be the reason behind someone coming up to face Miz in a surprise match.

After Bryan tries to send a number of challengers towards Miz and failed, a NXT call up could provide a matchup the Intercontinental Champion wasn’t prepared for. This could be a good way to have someone like Shinsuke Nakamura or Samoa Joe be called up to the main roster. Either one would receive a big pop from the live audience.
