WWE Rumors: Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks Result at Hell in a Cell Changed Last Minute

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Charlotte may have won at Hell in a Cell, but Sasha Banks had been planned to go over.

In their feud, Charlotte and Sasha Banks had traded the Raw Women’s Championship three times going into the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view. Banks first beat The Nature Girl one week after the WWE Draft. The title then changed hands at SummerSlam due to an injury to The Boss, who won the belt back about five weeks later on Raw.

Well, on Sunday night, the championship traded hands for a fourth time with Charlotte winning the Hell in a Cell match. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, this hadn’t been the original plan. Banks was supposed to win in front of her hometown crowd and stand tall to close Hell in a Cell. However, Vince McMahon changed his mind on the finish and made Charlotte the winner.

Here’s the quote from Meltzer, who spoke about this on Wrestling Observer Live (h/t Cageside Seats for the quote):

Vince screwed it up even worse because the original finish was Sasha Banks going over. Why that was changed… I mean, there is a reason. I don’t know the reason other than the decision was made to go with Charlotte and Bayley sooner than later, like sooner than it was originally going to be. Why? I don’t know.

Bayley beat Dana Brooke at Hell in a Cell, and said on Raw Talk that she wanted the Raw Women’s Championship. So, there may be something to this.

The most curious thing in the decision to take the belt off Banks, which doesn’t seem to be known yet. After her second 27-day reign, there should be some reason behind the decision if it wasn’t an injury. If this doesn’t have to do with health, then WWE may be going in a different direction with the now former Raw Women’s Champion.
