WWE Raw: Women's Division Ranking for September

WWE Raw: Women's Division Ranking for September

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The women’s roster on Raw isn’t that deep, but they have a lot of talented women that will be a part of WWE for many years to come.

The trio of Raw Women’s Champion Charlotte, her top rival Sasha Banks and main roster newcomer Bayley are the three women that Raw focuses on the most. Then there’s Nia Jax, who has spent the past two months doing her own thing as she beats everybody in her path.

It’s not easy booking a division with only six women that are active wrestlers, which is why WWE has brought in some women as enhancement talent some weeks as well.

Two Raw women that were drafted that are currently injured are Paige and Summer Rae.

Paige noted in a tweet on Thursday that she’s going to need some surgery on her neck. At this point there’s no word on how much time she might miss, but all WWE fans are certainly wishing her the best and hope she can be back in the ring soon.

Summer Rae has some nagging injuries and should be back soon. She has posted some photos on Instagram from a recent tour of China doing promotional work for WWE.

This is a look at Raw’s women’s division and how they did in the month of September. There are only six women worth writing about, so let’s get to it.

6. Alicia Fox

Fox hasn’t been used that much, but she did have a brief feud with Nia Jax. They did this storyline about how Fox was friends with an enhancement talent wrestler that Jax beat up easily, so Fox had a confrontation with Jax.

The angle they did on Raw with Jax brawling with Fox outside the ring was really well done. Then they had a match at the Clash of Champions on the Kickoff Show with Jax dominating the match and winning in under five minutes.

Due to Fox’s status as a veteran that started with the company back in 2008 (remember the wedding angle with Edge?), she’s earned a respected status as a veteran. Will they ever really get behind her in terms of giving her a push to the Women’s Title? That just doesn’t seem likely.

Fox is locked in as a role player on the Raw brand right now. It’s hard to see her breaking through any time soon.

5. Dana Brooke

Dana Brooke’s role on Raw is pretty simple. She’s the newer women’s wrestler that is there to learn from “The Queen” aka Women’s Champion Charlotte. However, Brooke is also somebody that could end up becoming a big face on the Raw brand just because of how much fans hate Charlotte.

On the September 5th episode of Raw, Charlotte slapped Brooke in a backstage segment. It was seen as a mean thing to do because Brooke really didn’t deserve it.

During an in-ring segment on September 12, Brooke got her revenge when she slapped Charlotte in the ring. It led to big reaction from the crowd with many fans cheering Brooke for what she did.

The friendship seems to be okay now, but based on what happened earlier in the month, things could break down at any time.

As far as her performance goes, Brooke is a decent in-ring performer that works well as somebody that looks up to Charlotte. It would be smart for WWE to keep them together for a few more months before they do the split.

4. Nia Jax

Nia Jax is undefeated since she debuted on the Raw brand in late July.

Every time she has had a match she has been the overwhelming favorite as WWE’s creative team has decided to feed her “local talent” every week. The fans we like to use is “jobbers” although you won’t hear that on WWE TV except when the fans chant it.

Jax had her first main roster feud with Alicia Fox, who stepped up for a fight, but really didn’t do anything to stop her.

It will be interesting to see how WWE uses Jax in October and beyond because at some point she has to get involved with the top three women on the show. If she does, it could lead to a Jax vs. Bayley rivalry, which we saw in NXT already, but it would be fresh on the main roster.

Jax is different from the other girls on Raw, which is a good thing because she can be a standout performer if she’s given the opportunity to do so.

Bayley 13

3. Bayley

Bayley’s Raw debut took place on August 22, the night after SummerSlam. The crowd loved her right away and she was booked to win all of her matches for a few weeks.

She got a big win on Raw when she beat Charlotte clean in a non-title match and it looked like she would face the champion in a title match at Clash of Champions. Then Sasha Banks was back in the mix because her back injury wasn’t as bad as WWE first thought.

It was nice to see Bayley getting a title shot at Clash of Champions, but as soon as they announced a three way it was obvious she was getting pinned. That’s what happened as Charlotte hit her with a boot to the face and pinned her. That finish really made Bayley look weak because it was just a basic kick that a talent like her should have kicked out of.

Bayley’s spot on Raw seems to be as the next in line for a title shot. Like I said with Jax, though, it wouldn’t be a bad thing if she feuded with her rival from NXT either. At least it would give them something to do.

2. Sasha Banks

When Sasha Banks lost the Women’s Title back to Charlotte at SummerSlam last month it was a big surprise. She only won the title less than a month earlier, so why would they do a change? It’s because she had a back injury that WWE was concerned about. Management thought she might need surgery, but the good news is that rehab worked and Banks was back in there in a triple threat number one contender’s match on September 12.

Banks initially was declared the winner of the triple threat that also involved Bayley and Dana Brooke. Replays showed that as she pinned Bayley, her shoulders were also down, so it was a draw with her and Bayley.

That led to the Clash of Champions triple threat match with Charlotte and Bayley on September 25. Since WWE wanted to keep Banks strong, she wasn’t pinned.

Banks gets a singles title match against Charlotte on Monday. Will they do another title change on Raw? Maybe. For Banks, whether she wins the title or not, all that really matters is that she’s back in the ring doing what she loves.

Banks remains one of the more popular women in WWE that is capable of great matches all the time. Her promo delivery is strong too. Just stay healthy and the sky is the limit for her.

1. Charlotte

The current Raw Women’s Champion Charlotte likes to refer to herself as “The Queen.” Considering how often she wins matches in WWE, the nickname fits her.

In addition to winning those matches, she also delivers quality promos nearly every week, her matches are usually great and she is one of the few true heels left in WWE. Some heels on the Raw brand are awesome performers as well, but they like to make jokes to pop the crowd. Charlotte’s not like that because she’s always looking to rile up the crowd and brag about how great she is.

It was disappointing to see her lose to Bayley on Raw, but that’s typical WWE booking where a champion loses non-title. She was impressive in winning the Clash of Champions triple threat match although I didn’t like the finish as mentioned earlier.

Charlotte’s win at Clash of Champions extended her record to 12-0 on PPVs when she’s in a title match. All that record really shows is that WWE loves booking her strong when the title is on the line.

By booking Charlotte as a champion that has held the Women’s (and previously Divas) Titles for 12 of the last 13 months, she really has become one of WWE’s best wrestlers this year.

Whether she ends October as Women’s Champion or drops it to Banks, Charlotte has proven herself to be a woman that the Raw brand can build around.
