TNA’s biggest pay-per-view of the year, Bound for Glory, is in the books but was it up to the challenge?

There has been so much speculation that Bound for Glory wouldn’t happen but it turned out to be a fantastic show.  The rivalries were promoted well and there weren’t many that were set up at the last minute.  As the biggest pay-per-view of the year, it is the best time for old feuds to end and new ones to begin.

Tonight’s Bound for Glory event was headlined by the TNA World Heavyweight Championship match.  EC3 and Bobby Lashley have had a longstanding rivalry for the better part of a year.  Lashley has been the dominating champion that no one can seem to dethrone but EC3 had one of the longest undefeated streaks in recent history in TNA.  Could EC3 finally take down the Destroyer, Lashley?

Another mar key matchup on this card was the Great War.  After The Final Deletion and Delete or Decay, there was no holding back in a match deemed as the Great War.  What is in store for as the Tag Team Titles are on the line and who will be deleted?

One of the more personal feuds has been Mike Bennett and Moose.  Moose made his debut to help Mike Bennett sabotage Destination X.  Both of them had been close for quite some time until Bennett decided to fend for himself in a World Heavyweight Championship No. 1 Contender’s match.  After a month of buildup, Moose will finally get his hands on Mike Bennett on Sunday.

Additionally, Aron Rex will face Eddie Edwards for the Grand Championship after Drew Galloway suffered an injury.  Gail Kim will not only be inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame but she will finally be able to get revenge on Maria for the Knockout’s Championship.  DJ Z battles Trevor Lee for the X-Division Championship after the Helms Dynasty left him laying on Impact.  Lastly, there is the Bound for Gold Gauntlet Match where the winner gets a TNA World Championship match when they choose.

It is time for Bound for Glory.

TNA X-Division Championship MatchDJ Z (c) vs Trevor Lee

Result: DJ Z defeated Trevor Lee via pinfall.

The biggest pay-per-view of the year starts with DJ Z and Trevor Lee for the X-Division Championship.  It makes sense considering this is the championship that put TNA on the map.  The X-Division is always a good way to get the crowd into the show.

This match was fast and furious from the start which is typical of the division of no limits.  The X-Divison always turns technical on its head.  Since both men have a history with each other they had to be more innovative with their normal maneuvers.  Lee followed up a backflip with a german suplex.  Both Lee and Zema had control throughout the match but the final onslaught was nothing for DJ Z.  He hits the ZDT for the win to retain the X-Division Championship.

Bound for Gold Gauntlet Match

Result: Eli Drake wins after last eliminating Tyrus and Jessie Godderz.

Jessie Godderz and Rockstar Spud start the match and Godderz goes for the elimination early.  Godderz seems to be in control but the scrappy Rockstar does whatever it takes to stay in the match.  Braxton Sutter comes into reignite his feud with Spud but his chances are short lived as he is the first one eliminated.

As Robbie E enters the match, he fools his partner by trying to eliminate him.  The miscommunication allows the other competitors to beat them down.  Eli Drake comes in and joins the attack.  The Tribunal are the next participants to join the match with Grado in between.  Grado decided to head to the back after making a boisterous entrance.  After the Tribunal gets eliminated, Spud feels like he and Tyrus can rehash their old alliance.  Tyrus was having none of this as he easily throws Spud to the outside of the ring.

Eli Drake keeps his feet from hitting the floor while Tyrus and Jessie Godderz continue to battle.  The opportunistic Drake comes back in to eliminate both of them and is the winner of Bound for Gold.

Moose vs Mike Bennett

Result: Moose defeated Mike Bennett via pinfall.

This match started off very aggressive due to the volatility of this feud.  It has been personal and both men are out for blood.  With Moose being a hybrid power wrestler, Bennett started to work the legs to slow his attack.  Pinpointing the leg didn’t seem to help Bennett in the least, it may have made Moose angrier.

The former football player is used to playing through pain and it seemed like nothing new.  Bennett has a history with Moose so he knew he had to pull out all the stops.  He planted Moose with an amazing tornado DDT followed by a piledriver.  Even Bennett’s biggest moves couldn’t slow down Moose.  He came firing back after every attack.  His signature spinning crossbody almost met his end when Bennett caught him into a cutter.  Moose gains victory with a spear and gets the personal advantage on Mike Bennett.  Will Moose move on to Lashley?

Impact Grand Championship MatchAron Rex vs Eddie Edwards

Result: Aron Rex defeated Eddie Edwards by judge’s decision to win the Impact Grand Championship.

Drew Galloway suffered an injury and was unable to compete for the Grand Championship tonight.  Eddie Edwards took his place since he was the person who faced Galloway in the semifinals.  The main format change to the Grand Championship match tonight was that it would be contested in three five-minute rounds.

Rex and Edwards used their normal offenses in this unique style of match.  Edwards went for his dives which didn’t always bode well but it seemed like Edwards was in control during the first round.  Eddie Edwards ends the round with strikes in the corner to Rex.  The round is awarded to Eddie Edwards who could be considered the underdog in this match.

Aron Rex comes goes right after Edwards since he is down one to zero by rounds.  This didn’t stop Edwards from trying to end the match via pinfall but Rex continued to fight.  Knowing that Edwards has him beaten in the speed advantage, Aron Rex starts to target the leg midway through the second round.  The inverted figure four almost put Edwards away but he managed to reach the ropes.  Even though Edwards tries to fight back, there was too much damage to leg for an intensive attack.  Rex wins the second round and Edwards seemed to be saved by the bell.

The third round of the Grand Championship match saw a more gritty and determined Aron Rex.  Both men scratched and clawed to become the first ever Grand Champion but the injured leg of Edwards slowed him.   He still came out and hit some impressive moves but Rex battle back with him.  Edwards and Rex continued to fight after the third round had ended.  After the judges decision, Aron Rex becomes your new Grand Champion.

Gail Kim Induction Ceremony

Gail Kim is the first Knockout ever to be inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame.  She is one of the pioneers of the Women’s Division and was also joined by two women who made the KO’s Division great in Taryn Terrell and Awesome Kong.  Kim definitely deserves to be the first Knockout inducted and to have the women who built it with her was an awe inspiring moment.

A video package played to review her career.  It included highlights from her career since her debut and her fellow competitors and personnel commenting on her journey.   She wanted to thank everyone who helped her along the way to a Hall of Fame career.  Even Gail Kim had to talk about the lows in her career that developed her into the wrestler she is today.  She talks about all that wrestling that given her.  Induction ceremonies are better to be watched than read about so watch the video above.

TNA World Tag Team Championship MatchThe Decay (c) vs The Hardys

Result: The Hardys defeated The Decay via pinfall to win the TNA World Tag Team Championship.

A match featuring two teams who have put each other through it all.  It could only be settled with the Great War.  With so much creative control, fans have no idea what to expect in this match but at the least, it’ll be entertaining.

This was match filled with weapons and some that hadn’t been seen in quite some time.  Abyss even pulled out the staple gun but what could one expect from a match entitled the Great War.  The match trickled to the back as Abyss and Matt Hardy battle backstage.  There were even more weapons backstage and early on, the fans imaginations could run wild with the selection.  From music stands to dirty mop water, it was hard to predict what was to come in this match.

There was even a point of melon throwing in the match.  This took made a recreation of the Final Deletion in a live format.  There was fighting in the parking lot, there was fire, and also Jeff Hardy reincarnations live.  Vanguard One even made an appearance but when all was set and done, The Hardy are the new Tag Team Champions after Jeff Hardy jumped from the largest ladder he could find.  The Great War was fantastic from start to finish.  There was theatrics but also hardcore in ring wrestling.

TNA Knockouts Championship MatchMaria (c) vs Gail Kim

Result: Gail Kim defeated Maria via pinfall to win the TNA Knockouts Championship.

This was a pretty underwhelming match that fell very short in length.  The miscommunication between Maria and Mike Bennett costs her the match.  For the build up to be for as long as it was, it did not live up to the hype.  Gail Kim wins easily and Mike Bennett is livid.  He complains about highjacking Bound for Glory and is met by TNA’s newest debuting star.

Cody and Brandi Rhodes come out and have the Bennett’s running.  It seems like the newest long standing rivalry will include the Rhodes family and the Bennett family.

No Holds Barred Match for the TNA World ChampionshipBobby Lashley (c) vs. Ethan Carter III

Result: Bobby Lashey defeated Ethan Carter III via pinfall to retain the TNA World Championship.

This was made a no holds barred match after Lashley won the Lethal Lockdown on the most recent edition of Impact.  Bobby Lashley made his challenger tape on that episode and one would think that he would use that submission edge to his advantage.

Lashley doesn’t even let Jeremy Borash finish EC3’s introduction before hitting a spear on him.  This lit a fire under EC3 and it became personal.  Carter turned up the physicality and has control over the usually dominate Lashley.  The World Champion retreats up the ramp and it allows him to catch EC3 off guard.  Lashley always wants to be in control as he has during his World Title reign.

EC3 was forced to use his speed on Lashley and it seemed to surprise the Champion.  The World Title brings out the best in the competitors as even EC3 had to hit a spear on Lashley.  Carter was also forced to take the fight to the outside.  Lashley continued to get frustrated throughout the match.  He attacked EC3 with anything he could get his hands on and continued to wear down the ribs.  He goes for the submission that put away EC3 on Thursday but Carter fights it off with a vengeance.

Carter looked to put the champion away but both men were kicking out of the oppositions best.  It looked like EC3 was going for a one percenter from the top turnbuckle but was met with a spear.  The diving spear ended the World Title match as Lashley retains the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.
