While the current Cesaro vs. Sheamus feud is in the middle of a best-of-seven series, one has to wonder whether the WWE should consider having more of these series in future storylines.

The current Cesaro vs. Sheamus rivalry is definitely an interesting storyline as they are facing each other in a best-of-seven series. While it is somewhat predictable that the series will likely hit the seventh match after Cesaro fell behind 3-0, it’s still something that hasn’t been done in a while.

Should WWE consider doing more best-of-seven series like Cesaro vs. Sheamus in the future? The quick answer is yes, for many reasons. One of which is that best-of-seven series are often some of the most exciting events in sports. Think of the classic rivalries that have formed for the NHL’s Stanley Cup and the MLB’s World Series.

All of those championship series provide memorable moments and a chance for one team to truly say they were the better team. There’s no debate if one team can win four of seven games. There might be some discussion about one team winning by a fluke play or a team lost by not handing the ball off to their star running back.

It also makes a lot of sense for rivalries that are planned to span over several months. It also has to mean something. The winner of the Cesaro vs. Sheamus series is going to receive a future shot at the WWE Universal Championship. Memories of Chris Benoit and Booker T facing each other in 1998 World Championship Wrestling come to mind. They even had a best-of-seven series for the WWE United States Championship in 2005; although Randy Orton came in as a substitute and won.

So why is the Cesaro vs. Sheamus feud the first WWE series for more than a decade? It was mentioned that the ending can be predictable since the series in 1998 and 2005 went to the seventh match. The Cesaro vs. Sheamus feud will likely go to that seventh match where Cesaro will likely win before challenging Kevin Owens, the heel champion.

It makes some sense to have these series go to seven matches, but the Stanley Cup isn’t always decided by a Game 7. Sometimes, a team knows how to close out when they get a 3-0 or 3-1 lead to win that championship. While it will be fine for Cesaro vs. Sheamus, it shouldn’t always be the case moving forward.

A story could be told if someone lost a series in a four-match sweep. Let’s take Dolph Ziggler for example and he is swept by one of the recent NXT call-ups. The creative direction could take Ziggler down a path where he has to redeem himself after the tough result, especially since he’s been with the company for several years now.

There has to be a balance by not doing the series too much. It could be an annual occurrence that leads to a championship match. Maybe if the WWE can bring back the King of the Ring tournament, the finals can be contested in a best-of-seven series format to clinch a future title match. The Cesaro vs. Sheamus storyline has the right idea, but it can be improved from there to give fans something different.
