Mick Foley Shares History on WWE Raw Opener with Stephanie McMahon
The opener of Monday’s episode of WWE Raw had plenty of emotion behind it, which Mick Foley went into detail about.
Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon opened Monday’s episode of WWE Raw going down memory lane. This started with them debating over the finish of the WWE Universal Championship match. Triple H had made his four-plus month return to cost Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns in the match, allowing Kevin Owens to win the belt. Foley questioned whether Stephanie had anything to do with this, which she pleaded that she did not.
Foley, who didn’t believe this at first, talked about his first encounter with McMahon. He mentioned seeing “the girl with the shy smile” and compared it to their ongoing confrontation. Foley and Stephanie would then be seen in the ring for a segment that led to Rollins vs. Owens set for WWE Clash of Champions.
On Wednesday, Foley took to Facebook to write about how much that opening segment, and working with Stephanie McMahon, means to him. It’s a lengthy, but worthwhile read that sees The Hardcore Legend go into detail on this topic, most notably calling Raw’s opener “powerful, almost magical”.
There seems to be a true bond between Foley and McMahon, which dates back to the famous Hell in a Cell match 1998. This saw Undertaker throw Foley off the cell and onto announce tables down at ringside.
Foley seemed to enjoy working with Stephanie during her run with Triple H in the “McMahon-Helmsley era” storyline, too, which saw The Game briefly retire Foley in a Hell in Cell match in 2000. The Raw GM notes this had been the last time he did an extensive on-air program with her.
The opening of Raw had plenty of meaning for Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley, one that gave fans a look at the bond they share.
