Brock Lesnar WWE Raw Segment Reportedly Made Vince McMahon Mad
Vince McMahon apparently freaked out over the disaster that was Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman trying to respond to Goldberg.
WWE billed Monday’s episode of Raw as the big return of Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman. They would be there to address Goldberg accepting the challenge for a match, and maybe even set a time and date for this future encounter.
This segment turned into a mess, though. As Heyman tried multiple times to get the Minneapolis, MN crowd to chant for Goldberg, they yelled “Suplex City” in response. This supported Lesnar, who is billed from this city. The Beast’s music then got played before the segment could have its proper finish, ending this disaster.
According to Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Radio, Vince McMahon reportedly “blew a gasket” over the “Goldberg Sucks” and “Suplex City” chants. He apparently was the one to pull the segment early by playing Lesnar’s music.
It’s difficult to fathom that there would be a plan to get Lesnar booed in his hometown. WWE Superstars rarely get negative reactions in their native areas, so why would this be any different? Goldberg isn’t exactly the most beloved wrestling legend either after what went down at WrestleMania XX. WWE apparently thought the Minneapolis fans would root in favor of him, which couldn’t have been more wrong.
Next Monday, the former WCW star will appear on Raw in Hartford, CT. It’s no one’s hometown this time around, but there should be some concern based on Lesnar and Heyman’s appearance. If Goldberg gets booed or is directed with “Goldberg Sucks” chants, we could be in for a long month until this program eventually culminates at (probably) Survivor Series.
WWE set themselves up to fail with the booking for Lesnar and Heyman on Raw. It’s a bad sign for this future match that’s trying to get some steam. If things like what happened on October 24 continue, then we may be in for something ugly atSurvivor Series.
