A look at why it makes sense to have Cesaro and Sheamus form a tag team.

For weeks, fans saw Cesaro and Sheamus put each other through so much pain. The two rivals fought each other to a tie in a best of seven series. Every match was different from the other and the series showcased the uncanny chemistry these two stars had with each other. At one point, it looked like Sheamus was going for the clean sweep by going up 3-0 in the series.

Cesaro then made a tremendous comeback with a storyline back injury. The series was tied at 3-3 and the final match at Clash of Champions ended as a no-contest as both contestants were unable to continue.  It would be more accurate to say, the medics and the referee did not let them fight anymore. Sheamus and Cesaro were ready to rip each other apart.

The following week on Raw, general manager Mick Foley addressed the situation. It was announced that Cesaro and Sheamus would both be given a title opportunity and that it would be for the Raw tag team titles. As much as it made the fans angry in some ways, it also makes much sense when you consider the options these stars have at their disposal. Here is look at what can be expected from this potentially dynamic duo.

3. Friends or Foes?

Having two foes team up is a theme that is used quite often in the WWE. We have seen people like John Cena and Shawn Michaels or even Cena and Batista team up and even hold the tag team titles. Most recently, the relatively odd pairing of Heath Slater and Rhyno catapulted them to the top of the tag team scene is SmackDown.

A lot of people were upset that this was the outcome of the best of seven series. Regardless, this makes more sense than any other plot twist creative could have come up with. The main event scene is already crowded with too many variables. It is a mess beyond comprehension. Since Roman Reigns just won the U.S title, that settles the mid card scene as well. We can expect Rusev to try to get his title back at least once more.

That leaves the tag team titles as the only viable option. New Day will drop the titles eventually. We don’t know if it will be to the Club or to another team. But it might as well be this new team of Cesaro and Sheamus. However, they would ideally make a great team to battle against The Club. Never the less, at the moment, the tag team scene is the only place on Raw that can offer Cesaro or Sheamus the gold.

2. Definitely Not SAWFT

With Cesaro and Sheamus, we are talking about two of the hardest hitters on the entire Raw roster. We are talking about two legitimately tough guys here. They are solid in-ring technicians. They are also the fiercest of brawlers. Cesaro and Sheamus as a team can bring the old school hard-hitting tag team style to Raw. It also helps that they always manage to get a reaction from the crowd.

Cesaro is an internet darling and is one of the best in terms of technical skills. He is also freakishly strong. Remember when he scooped up Big Show at Wrestlemania 30? Sheamus is a rare talent. He is at his best when rampaging over the opposition with his brute power. This new team has the perfect balance of power and finesse. If all goes well and provided they don’t end up fighting again, these two can go all the way.

They would make an ideal baby face team to fight against The Club. A feud between these two teams will be nothing like what we saw from the Club and New Day. Brawlers like Anderson and Gallows don’t mesh well with an act like New Day. The ideal scenario would be to build up this team of Cesaro and Sheamus as a formidable team and parallelly have The Club win the tag titles.

1. Eventual Championship Glory

When the best of seven series was mid way through, we analysed that the WWE creative team had a potential gold mine on their hands. We discussed how they could come away with two mega stars instead of one winner and one loser. You can read about it here.

Creative has an even better scenario at play here. By pairing up these two titans and having them chase the tag team titles, everyone is a winner. Cesaro and Sheamus both gets the gold. Sheamus wouldn’t look like a sour lose who lost a 3-0 edge here. Cesaro wouldn’t look like an unfortunate baby face who had to give up because of a bad back.

Remember when WWE paired Cesaro with Tyson Kidd? They became one of the best tag teams on the roster in short time. The same can happen with this pairing as well. Cesaro is a master technician who can mesh with any wrestler. Imagine a double team move where a Brogue kick turns into a Cesaro swing. Imagine a double team scenario of relentless forearm clubs and upper cuts. I don’t want to be at the receiving end of that. The team of Cesaro and Sheamus is destined for greatness in the WWE. It is only a matter of time before they get their hands on the title.

On a side note, though, it would be better if Cesaro would lose his suit-tearing gimmick. He nails the whole professional look. But he needs to stop tearing off his suit that way. I would also love to see Sheamus shave his head and keep the beard. Regardless, it would be interesting to see the dynamics of the evolution of the latest odd pairing in the WWE.
