UC Santa Barbara has hired Rutgers assistant Carlene Mitchell as its new head women's basketball coach.
Mitchell replaces Lindsay Gottlieb, who was hired last month by Cal. Mitchell spent the past 10 seasons at Rutgers, the last three as associate head coach.
UC Santa Barbara athletic director Mark W. Massari calls Mitchell a tremendous choice to represent the university on and off the court.
Mitchell, a first-time head coach, takes over a program that has won 14 Big West regular-season titles in the past 16 years.
