Kristen Riley had 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead three scorers in double figures as No. 23 Brigham Young cruised to its eighth straight victory, 69-55 over Seattle on Wednesday night.
Kim Parker added 15 points and Stephanie Vermunt had 14 for the Cougars (19-3), who were playing for the first time since breaking into the AP's top 25 this week. The last time BYU was in the rankings was at No. 22 on Dec. 2, 2006.
Ashley Ward scored 18 points to lead the Redhawks (12-9). Kacie Sowell had 15 points and 16 rebounds, and Talisa Rhea added 11 points.
BYU had a 36-22 lead at halftime, scored the first four points of the second half, and Seattle never got closer than the final margin of 14 after that.
The Cougars had three scoring runs during the first half to take control of the game. The first was 7-0 to go in front for good at 10-6. An eight-point burst, started by back-to-back 3-pointers from Vermunt, extended the lead to 19-10. Another 10 straight points, with another 3 from Vermunt and one from Parker, pushed it into double-digits at 35-20 with 2:12 left in the half.
Sowell's double-double was her 10th of the season for Seattle. Ward came within two points of her career scoring high, and Sowell was within two rebounds of her career best.
BYU hit 50 percent from the field (27 of 54). It was the fifth time in seven games the Cougars have shot 50 percent or better. They also hit 42 percent (8 for 19) from 3-point range.
Seattle suffered through its worst shooting night of the season at 29 percent (18 of 63). That included just 5 of 23 (22 percen) on 3s.
The Redhawks were playing a nationally ranked team at home for the first since starting the reclassification process to Division I in 2008-09.
