WNBA hires Jay Parry as chief operating officer

NEW YORK (AP) Jay Parry is the WNBA's new chief operating officer.
The league announced the appointment Monday.
Parry spent seven seasons as the president and COO of the Phoenix Mercury and will now lead all team and league efforts to generate revenue. He was instrumental in helping the Mercury secure the first marquee jersey partnership in league history.
Parry also spent time with the Phoenix Suns in 2010 before serving as the president and CEO of the Arizona Super Bowl host committee.

He will start May 2, leading to the season opening May 14.
