Tate says orbital bone broken in two places from UFC 183 win
Miesha Tate earned a hard-fought three-round victory over Sara McMann in their UFC 183 match in Las Vegas on Saturday night. But the victory came with a price, as Tate said Sunday on Instagram that her orbital bone was broken in two places early in the fight.
McMann came out striking hard in the first round, knocking her opponent back and down to the mat with powerful punches.
Tate acknowledged in a post-match interview with announcer Joe Rogan that she was hurt badly at the time. "Pretty bad. I knew I had to hang on for dear life," Tate said.
Tate said the injury kept her from seeing clearly out of one eye for the second and third rounds and that she "had to dig deep."
Scores were 29-28, 29-27 and 28-28 in Tate's favor, and she had nothing but respect for McMann.
"Sara McMann is an amazing competitor, a tough fight for anyone!!" Tate said on Instagram.
