Pettis out as UFC 163 headliner
UFC President Dana White posted a tweet earlier today breaking news that Anthony “Showtime” Pettis has injured his knee and will no longer face reigning champion Jose Aldo for the featherweight title.
Chan Sung Jung aka “The Korean Zombie” will now face the featherweight titleholder in the main event at UFC 163.
Zombie is coming off three sensational wins over Leonard Garcia, Mark Hominick and Dustin Poirier. His presence has been made very clear in the featherweight division and the #4-ranked Jung will be ready for his upcoming challenge. Despite TKZ's impressive surge, fellow Top 5 featherweights are already expressing their disdain:
Really??!!! The Korean Zombie gets the title shot?!.....😒 Lame @ufc

Indeed, the MMA gods continue to have other plans Anthony
Pettis. It’s been just under five months since "Showtime"
dealt a TKO in impressive fashion to Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone and
cemented his place into UFC contendership. Pettis also threw a
curveball when he
announced his plans to drop to featherweight to battle
Aldo—fight fans around the globe had been patiently waiting
for a Benson Henderson rematch. Further details surrounding
Pettis’ injury have yet to be disclosed, but pending his
recovery time, Pettis could have just opened up a wormhole back to
the lightweight division.
