Jose Aldo vs. Conor McGregor headlines UFC 189 in July

The most anticipated featherweight title fight in history will go down at UFC 189 as part of International Fight Week in Las Vegas, with champion Jose Aldo putting his belt on the line against Irish superstar Conor McGregor on July 11 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

UFC officials made the announcement on Friday ahead of McGregor's Q&A prior to the UFC 183 weigh-ins.

The fight between McGregor and Aldo was originally rumored for the UFC pay-per-view card in May, but ultimately officials opted to push the fight back to the summer where the featherweight showdown will be the featured bout of one of the biggest fight cards of the year.

McGregor storms into the title fight after a 5-0 run in the UFC, including his most recent win over Dennis Siver in Boston just a few weeks ago. The outspoken Irish fighter has lobbied for a title shot since arriving in the UFC and now he'll get his wish.

Immediately after scoring the victory, McGregor hopped out of the Octagon and confronted Aldo, who was in attendance.

He'll face the only featherweight champion the UFC has ever known as Aldo looks to make his eighth title defense since joining the promotion in 2011.

Aldo most recently fought and defeated Chad Mendes by decision last October in one of the most thrilling fights of all 2014.

The two featherweights will face off at the end of International Fight Week, which includes several other events and the return of the UFC Fan Expo.

More fights for UFC 189 will be announced in the coming weeks.
