Gray Maynard returns against Fabricio Camoes at UFC 176

Published May. 20, 2014 1:56 a.m. ET

Former UFC lightweight contender Gray Maynard will look to erase the memory of two recent losses when he gets back in action on August 2 at UFC 176 facing Brazilian Fabricio Camoes at UFC 176 in Los Angeles.

UFC officials announced the new bout late Monday evening.

Following a hard charge at the 155-pound title in 2011, Maynard (11-3-1) has fallen on harder times losing three out of his last four bouts.  The former Michigan State wrestler suffered back-to-back knockouts to TJ Grant and Nate Diaz in consecutive bouts before taking some time off to reassess his future in the sport.

Just recently, Maynard decided to move training camps from American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose to Power MMA & Fitness in Arizona where he'll work alongside fellow UFC fighters Ryan Bader and CB Dollaway under the guidance of head coach Aaron Simpson.

His opponent, Fabricio Camoes (14-8-1) will also look to put the brakes on a two-fight skid after falling to both Melvin Guillard and Jim Miller.

With an overall record of 1-3-1 in the UFC, this has to be seen as a do or die fight for Camoes if he wants to continue to compete in the Octagon.

The bout between Maynard and Camoes is the latest addition to the UFC's upcoming return to Los Angeles, headlined by the featherweight title rematch pitting champion Jose Aldo against top contender Chad Mendes.
