Demetrious Johnson defends his title against Chris Cariaso at UFC 177

UFC 177 will not only feature a bantamweight title fight between T.J. Dillashaw and Renan Barao, but now the card headed for Sacramento on August 30 will get a second championship bout.
Demetrious Johnson will make a quick turn around from his last title defense to put the UFC flyweight title on the line when he faces Chris Cariaso in a new bout just announced on Tuesday.
Johnson (20-2-1) will enter the fight in August as a massive favorite following a five-round dominant win over Ali Bagautinov at UFC 174, which marked his fourth consecutive title defense in the flyweight division. Johnson's next opponent was likely former Ultimate Fighter winner John Dodson, but an injury forced the New Mexico native into surgery and out of action for the next year, which left an opening for the top contender spot in the division.
Enter Chris Cariaso.
Cariaso (17-5) lands the fight with Johnson riding a three fight win streak in the division and a No. 8 ranking overall. There's no doubt Cariaso is fighting an uphill battle considering his two losses in the division came to John Moraga and Jussier Formiga -- the only two ranked fighters he's faced at 125-pounds.
Still everybody loves a good underdog story and Cariaso will certainly have that on his side when he faces Johnson in August.
UFC 177 goes down on Saturday, August 30 from the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, California.
