Cub Swanson vs. Jeremy Stephens headlines UFC Fight Night in San Antonio

Published Mar. 19, 2014 3:15 p.m. ET

The featherweight division may find a new top contender come June 28 when Cub Swanson meets Jeremy Stephens in the main event of the upcoming UFC Fight Night card from San Antonio.

The five round headline bout was confirmed to FOX Sports by UFC officials on Wednesday.

A winner of five fights in a row, Cub Swanson (20-5) has been gunning for a title shot in the featherweight division for the better part of the last year.  The Team Greg Jackson fighter has hit a serious stride over his last few fights where he's put away four out of his last five opponents by knockout or TKO.

If Swanson is gunning for a standup fight in his next bout, his opponent will most certainly comply.

Jeremy Stephens (23-9) is known as one of the most prolific knockout punchers in UFC history with more than a few jaw-rattling finishes to his credit.  Since dropping down to 145-pounds, Stephens has gone a perfect 3-0 including his last win over top 10 ranked fighter Darren Elkins.

Now Stephens will face Swanson with title implications almost certainly on the line as both fighters look to extend winning streaks and make a statement in their headline bout in San Antonio.

The card takes place on June 28 from the AT&T Center in San Antonio with tickets going on sale soon.  The show will air live on FOX Sports 1.
