Cris Cyborg sworn in as an American citizen
Cris "Cyborg" Justino is now officially an American citizen after being sworn in during a ceremony held in California on Tuesday.
The veteran 145-pound Invicta FC champion and UFC veteran was part of group of 2,300 new citizens who were part of the ceremony.
"The first time I went to America, I had the opportunity to fight here and people really appreciate my work and appreciate my sport," Cyborg said when speaking to the Associated Press.
"It's an opportunity for me (to) give back for the American community what they give to me. I can vote. I can participate more."
Cyborg has lived part time in the United States for several years where she trains out of her home gym in Huntington Beach, Calif.
Most recently, Cyborg competed in the UFC this past September where she won her second straight fight in the Octagon by knockout.
Currently, Cyborg is resting and recovering following a brutal weight cut for her last bout before she returns in 2017.
