Christy Mack opens up about night of War Machine assault
By Steve DelVecchio
It has been almost a year since MMA fighter War Machine, whose real name is Jonathan Koppenhaver, allegedly beat his girlfriend Christy Mack and another man. Mack, an adult film star, recently sat down with HBO to discuss the incident for a “Real Sports” piece on domestic violence in MMA that will air on Tuesday night.
“I don’t remember the first hit. I just remember him charging at me,” Mack said. “I could taste the blood in my mouth. I’m going in and out of consciousness.
“At one point, he had kicked me so hard in my side that it ruptured my liver. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t catch my breath. I started convulsing. At that point I felt like I was going to die.”
While the gruesome photos Mack has shared of her injuries show how brutally she was beaten, less has been said about War Machine allegedly sexually assaulting Mack. The attempted rape allegations are equally disturbing, and be warned that they are very graphic.
“I told him I needed help. I told him I needed to go to the hospital and he said, ‘There’s nothing they can help you with. They can’t help you now,'” Mack said while fighting back tears.
War Machine once joked about raping Mack, and Mack defended him.
Koppenhaver has pleaded not guilty to all charges and remains in jail while awaiting trial. War Machine’s brother claims Mack was caught having sex with another man and immediately grabbed a knife and attacked War Machine.
