Cain, DC, Rockhold get new BJJ belts

Published Oct. 3, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

It was a big day for UFC stars Daniel Cormier, Cain Velasquez and Luke Rockhold as they were all rewarded new belts for their achievements in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Cain and Luke upgraded from brown to black while DC made a significant jump from white to brown. Typically for adults, the brown belt is awarded after the purple, so DC skipped two ranks.  He's received these credentials just in time to contend with Roy Nelson's beard, which rumor has it, has officially reached red belt status.

The three fighters received their belts from Checkmat BJJ's Leandro Vieira who is also the head jiu-jitsu coach at American Kickboxing Academy.  Check out the award ceremony for Daniel Cormier. It involved nunchucks and a human gauntlet of spanking from Velasquez and the rest of AKA.
