40-year-old Mike Pyle earns TKO win over Sean Spencer
Welterweight Mike Pyle fought young, Saturday night, and at 40 years old, earned a dramatic TKO victory over Sean Spencer. "Lordy Lordy, look who's 40," he proclaimed in his post-fight interview.
Early on, the 28-year-old Spencer had success against Pyle, but in the second round, the Vegas fighter began to turn the tide. He hurt Spencer on the feet but stayed patient, and didn't rush in to finish.
Late in the third and final round, however, a tiring Pyle managed to stay busy with well-timed strikes and caught Spencer on the top of the head with a spinning, reverse elbow strike. Spencer was wobbled, and Pyle stormed in for the finish, landing strike after strike against the cage.
Spencer refused to go down, but could not muster any offense and the referee stepped in to call a stop to the FS1 main card fight. "He comes to fight, no matter what," Pyle said with admiration of his opponent, afterwards.
"Man, he took some good shots ... he took it like a champ. He's tough."
Pyle is pretty tough as well. After snapping a two-fight losing streak, the veteran said he is also living the dream.
"I always wanted to be an MMA fighter. I always wanted to be a UFC fighter," he said.
"I don't plan on going anywhere, anytime soon, but you never know what the future holds...I'm lucky to be healthy enough at this age to do what I love to do."
