Vesely wins in straight sets, reaches semifinals of Nastase Tiriac

BUCHAREST, Romania -- Seventh-seed Jiri Vesely of the Czech Republic reached his third ATP tour semifinal of the season by overcoming third-seeded Ivo Karlovic 6-4, 6-4 on Friday at the BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy.

Vesely withstood 11 aces from the hard-serving Karlovic to wrap up the win in 79 minutes.

Vesely said "I was prepared to play two or three tiebreaks if necessary, but I'm happy that I was able to convert when break opportunities occurred."

The 20-year-old Vesely, who won the Heineken Open in January, and will face the winner between top-seeded Gilles Simon and Daniel Gimeno-Traver.

Fifth-seeded Guillermo Garcia-Lopez also advanced by beating No. 4 Lukas Rosol 6-4, 7-6 (7).
