Patty Schnyder beat Kim Clijsters 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (6) to reach the quarterfinal of the Luxembourg Open.

The Swiss outsider punished Clijsters for her 11 double faults in the two-hour match and imposed the first defeat on the Belgian since she won the U.S. Open last month.

Yanina Wickmayer also reached the quarterfinals, edging Alize Cornet 7-5, 7-6 (6).

Wickmayer will play another Belgian, Kirsten Flipkens, on Friday.

Fourth-seeded Daniela Hantuchova defeated Lucie Hradecka 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 to advance to the quarterfinals. She'll play Shahar Peer, who defeated Carla Suarez Navarro 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark retired with a hamstring injury on Wednesday.
