Nadal to resume training after leg injury

Published Feb. 9, 2011 12:00 a.m. ET

Top-ranked Rafael Nadal can train again after recovering from a leg injury sustained during his quarterfinal loss at the Australian Open.

Nadal tore a muscle in his right leg during a straight-sets defeat to fellow Spaniard David Ferrer on Jan. 26.

Nadal says his doctor has cleared him to return to the court. He'll be preparing for Spain's Davis Cup match against Belgium. The first-round series will be held March 4-6.

Nadal says he'll start training slowly, so that there are no setbacks.

The 24-year-old was attempting to win the Australian Open so he could hold all four Grand Slam titles at once. He says he cried in the locker room after his loss to Ferrer.
