Fifth-seeded Chela advances in Brazil

Fifth-seeded Juan Ignacio Chela of Argentina beat Brazilian Rogerio Dutra Da Silva 6-7 (4), 7-6 (4), 6-3 to reach the second round of the Brazil Open on Tuesday.

In other first-round matches at the clay-court event, Carlos Berlocq of Argentina downed Andre Ghem of Brazil, 6-4, 6-3, and Rui Machado of Portugal beat Argentina's Facundo Bagnis 6-4, 6-2.

Also, Lukasz Kubot of Poland advanced against Eduardo Schwank of Argentina 6-7 (5), 7-5, 7-6 (2), and Brazil's Ricardo Mello reached the second round with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Santiago Giraldo of Colombia.

Nicolas Almagro is the top-seeded player in the event and fellow Spaniard Albert Montanes is No. 2. Both have byes into the second round.
