Beyond the Baseline Podcast: Torben Ulrich
On this week's episode of the SI Tennis Beyond the Baseline Podcast, Sports Illustrated executive editor and host Jon Wertheim talks with Torben Ulrich.
Known in the tennis world as a former Danish player who reached a career-high ranking of No. 96 during his career from the late 1940s to the 1970s. Despite being a longtime fixture on the tennis tour, Ulrich, 88, is now a writer, musician, filmmaker, painter and more. He and Wertheim discuss his philosophy and interpretations of ball-playing, particularly tennis and what he sees when he watches matches. Ulrich also talks about his relationship with the current game, how often and who he follows on tour, what gives him pleasure when he watches tennis, the current fan experience and more. Ulrich and Wertheim also discuss his son Lars, who is the drummer for Metallica, and the impact's of his son's fame on his own life.
