Zenit claims Russian title with 2 rounds left

Zenit St. Petersburg claimed its third Russian league title with two games left in the season after routing Rostov 5-0 on Sunday.

Danko Lazovic converted a penalty in the 40th minute. Sergei Semak made it 2-0 in the 75th, and Alexander Kerzhakov scored in the 81st. Substitute Alexander Bukharov scored two goals in three minutes.

Zenit has 66 points from 28 games in the 16-team league. CSKA Moscow is eight points behind in second place. Rubin Kazan, the 2009 champion, is next with 56 points.

Zenit won its titles in 1984 and 2007. Its first European triumph in the 2008 UEFA Cup.

The team is now coached by Luciano Spalletti, whose first success in his first season with the team was a Russian Cup title in May.
