Wolfsburg's Martins to have surgery

German champion Wolfsburg says Nigeria striker Obafemi Martins will have surgery on a shin injury and will be sidelined until after the Bundesliga's winter break.

Wolfsburg said late Friday that Martins will undergo the operation in Hamburg next week.

Coach Armin Veh said that the pain from the left shin injury had become too great and an operation was needed now - rather than during the winter break, as originally planned.
