Vitesse dominated their out-of-sorts opposition but failed to press home their advantage as the visitors held on for a morale-boosting result. Despite the point, Willem II remain rooted to the foot of the standings, six points from safety, while Vitesse are 13th after failing to win for the sixth time in eight games. Julian Jenner fired in Vitesse's first chance of the night after five minutes but visiting goalkeeper Davino Verhulst was more than equal to the effort. Two minutes later Jenner crossed for Dalibor Stevanovic who should have done better than head wide with no Willem II defenders in attendance. Stevanovic fired straight at Verhulst on 22 minutes as the hosts continued to boss proceedings, while Willem II's best chance of the half came and went when Maceo Rigters was denied in a one-on-one with Vitesse goalkeeper Eloy Room. A dismal second period was enlivened on 75 minutes when Vitesse defender Guram Kashia found himself unmarked in front of goal from a corner but inexplicably missed his kick with the goal gaping. Nacer Barazite flashed one wide of the visitors' goal moments later, while with 10 minutes remaining Ismail Aissati beat two players before ballooning his shot over the bar. Willem II had a chance to snatch all the points in injury time but Rowin Van Zaanen lost his cool when in plenty of space in the area, firing wildly off target.
