Ronnie Stam scored a late equalizer to salvage a 1-1 draw for Wigan at Bolton in the English Premier League on Wednesday after his goalkeeper Chris Kirkland was carried off with a head injury.

Bolton went ahead in the 54th minute when striker Rodrigo Moreno, who was on loan from Benfica, beat Chris Kirkland from six meters (yards) after being picked out by Mark Davies.

Stam leveled at the far post in the 80th, claiming his first Wigan goal by sidefooting home at the far post after meeting Steve Gohouri's cross.

Kirkland was carried off on a stretcher shortly after the hour mark with a head injury following an accidental collision with Johan Elmander.

''Chris is going to be in hospital for 24 hours as a precaution but the first report was very, very positive,'' Wigan manager Roberto Martinez said.

While Wigan was still one point and a place above bottom-place West Ham, Bolton was seventh in the standings.
