Kevin Nolan gave West Ham a 1-0 win against Aston Villa on Saturday in his side's first game back in the Premier League.
Aston Villa began the game at Upton Park more impressively, but midfielder Nolan scored in the 40th minute for the home team after receiving a pass from striker Ricardo Vaz Te.
West Ham striker came close to extending its lead through Carlton Cole in the second half.
The match was Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert's first in charge.
