Vladimir Weiss has agreed to extend his contract as Slovakia coach by four more years following the team's surprise performance at its first World Cup.
Slovakia upset Italy 3-2 in its last group match in South Africa, eliminating the defending champions, and helping the team advance to the round of 16 where it lost to the tournament's runner-up the Netherlands 2-1.
The 45-year-old Weiss said on Tuesday the World Cup showed his young but relatively experienced team ''new possibilities,'' and that he hoped to achieve more with his squad.
Under Weiss, who took charge in June 2008, Slovakia won its qualifying group to advance to a major tournament for the first time.
