Already enjoying a 3-1 lead from the first leg, Utrecht were the stronger team again away from home to win with goals in either half from Ricky van Wolfswinkel and Nana Asare. This was always going to be a tall order for Groningen and outgoing coach Ron Jans. But their job got all the harder when Van Wolfswinkel put the visitors ahead with a fine chip in the 38th minute. Things got worse for them in the second half with Asare beating Luciano Da Silva to make it 2-0 on the day with nine minutes to go. Boldiszar Bodor netted a last-minute goal to put Roda into the final at the expense of Heracles Almelo. A tight encounter was locked at 1-1, and the tie 2-2 on aggregate, when Bodor tapped in Anouar Hadouir's cross to sink Heracles.
