Uruguay soccer great Alcides Ghiggia is in critical condition in a coma with multiple injuries and breathing problems following a traffic accident.

His son Arcadio Ghiggia, told the daily El Pais newspaper in Montevideo on Friday that he's in critical condition and ''doctors are doing all they can.'' He says there's nothing to do but wait and see.

Alcides Ghiggia, 85, scored the goal that beat Brazil and won the 1950 World Cup for Uruguay.

El Pais reports that a heavy truck ran a stop sign and slammed into his car on Wednesday.
