Atletico Madrid defender Tomas Ujfalusi has been suspended for two games for the ugly tackle that injured Lionel Messi and will sideline the FIFA player of the year for at least two games.
Ujfalusi was shown a straight red card after catching Messi's right ankle with his studs during injury time in Barcelona's 2-1 victory on Sunday. The tackle sprained the internal and external ligaments of his ankle, Barcelona said after an MRI scan on Monday.
Ujfalusi received the minimum ban Tuesday. The Czech center back could have been suspended for up to a month by the Spanish league's disciplinary committee.
Atletico will be without Ujfalusi for matches at Valencia on Wednesday and against Zaragoza four days later.
