Swiss referee Massimo Busacca has been named to officiate the Super Cup match between Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid on Friday in Monaco.
UEFA's choice to handle the biggest match of the season so far is a show of faith after Busacca was judged to be the victim of football politics at the World Cup in South Africa.
In the only match awarded to him by FIFA, Busacca showed a red card to South Africa goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune for tripping Luis Suarez when Uruguay led 1-0 with 10 minutes left. Uruguay scored the penalty and won 3-0, meaning the host nation was eliminated on goal difference after later beating France 2-1.
South Africa coach Carlos Alberto Parreira criticized Busacca, saying ''he doesn't deserve to be here.''
