Two players from Mexican club Necaxa arrested in alleged beating
MEXICO CITY - Two soccer players with second-division Mexican club Necaxa are in custody in connection with a weekend fight in which a man was seriously injured.
Twenty-two-year-old Luis Antonio Gorocito Resende and 27-year-old Alejandro Molina Nunez face assault and battery charges. Authorities in the central state of Aguascalientes say the incident began when the suspects made catcalls at a young woman outside a bar in the state capital of the same name.
The 22-year-old victim defended her, and the players allegedly got out of their car and punched and kicked him. They were later detained, and the victim was hospitalized.
Necaxa issued a statement repudiating violence on and off the field. The club said it was awaiting results of the investigation. The state prosecutor's office said Gorocito and Molina were jailed Monday.
