Twente triumph to go top
Defending champions Twente moved two points clear of opponents PSV as two goals from the impressive Theo Janssen gave them a crucial victory. Theo Janssen opened the scoring with a penalty in the 64th minute and sealed the points in style with an individual effort eight minutes from time. Roda, meanwhile, got the better of Willem II by the odd goal in nine in a stunning encounter. Remarkably the game was tight at 1-0 at the midway point, with Andreas Lasnik giving Willem II the lead from the spot. The second half was the polar opposite, though, as Pa-Modou Kah got Roda level, with Martin Skoubo then doing the same thing after a Bart Biemans strike. Ruud Vorner gave Roda the lead for the first time and Davy de Fauw gave them some breathing space at 4-2, before Lasnik got his second. Vorner then completed his brace, but the scoring was still not over as Maceo Rigters netted Willem II's fourth. There was also plenty of entertainment at Heerenveen, where teenage substitute Nayib Lagouireh scored a stoppage-time winner as relegation-threatened Excelsior produced a dramatic comeback to triumph 3-2 - their first away win of the season. Michel Breuer put the hosts ahead in the second minute and Bas Dost doubled their advantage on the half-hour. But the game was turned on its head in the final quarter. Geert Arend Roorda bagged a brace and then Christian Grindheim saw red before Lagouireh had the final word to boost third-bottom Excelsior's survival hopes. Also tonight, AZ Alkmaar boosted their European hopes with a 1-0 victory at Feyenoord, Charlison Benshop scoring a minute before the break to strengthen AZ's grip on fourth place. They moved four points clear of ADO Den Haag, who visit FC Utrecht tomorrow. NAC Breda recorded just their second away win of the season as they eased past lowly nine-man De Graafschap 3-1. Leonardo put the visitors ahead before the break only for Yuri Rose to get the home side back on level terms with 16 minutes left. However, Anthony Lurling and a Donny Gorter penalty, which saw Rogier Meijer dismissed, sealed the win and Leon Broekhof then saw red in added time for giving away another spot-kick, but midfielder Gorter could not find the net at the second time of asking.
