Trezeguet secures River Plate win
David Trezeguet's goal in the 31st minute lifted River Plate to a 1-0 victory over Estudiantes on Sunday, giving the famous Buenos Aires club a share of first place in Argentina's first division.
River's Buenos Aires archrivals Boca Juniors didn't do as well, settling for poor 0-0 draw on Sunday at Tigre.
In other Sunday matches, Lanus defeated Newell's Old Boys 3-0, and Quilmes beat All Boys 2-1.
River is off to a fast start under new coach Ramon Diaz, but new coach Carlos Bianchi at Boca is having early problems. Boca was beaten 2-1 this week by Mexico club Toluca in the Copa Libertadores. Bianchi made six changes on Sunday, but with little improvement.
''It was a good win for us at home,'' Trezeguet said. ''We have two victories in two games, but the season has just begun.''
Lanus and River Plate have six points from two games early in the second half of Argentina's split season.
Silvio Romero and Mario Regueiro scored for Lanus with the other tally coming on an own-goal by Newell's defender Marcos Caceres.
Juan Cobo and Jacobo Mansilla scored for Quilmes.
In other results on Friday and Saturday: Racing 2, Argentinos Juniors 0; Godoy Cruz 2, Union 1; San Lorenzo 0, Belgrano 0;
Colon 1, San Martin 1; Velez Sarsfield 0, Independiente 1.
On Monday, Arsenal is home against Atletico Rafaela.
