Only a month ago, no one was sure if Clint Dempsey would be on the U.S. national team roster for the World Cup qualifier vs. Honduras.

But he not only made the roster, he started on Friday night and scored a beauty of a goal with a perfect lobbed pass from Christian Pulisic:

Pulisic, the 18-year-old Borussia Dortmund midfielder, played in a central role for the USMNT on Friday and he delivered the type of pass to Dempsey that Bruce Arena was probably dreaming of when he crafted his line-up. Dempsey did well to chest the ball and control it, fend off a couple of Honduran defenders to stay on his feet, and then finish.

It was a special combination between the USMNT's youngest player and one of the most veteran players on the roster. Arena's decisions up top were severely tied due to injuries, but Dempsey showed why he's never counted out.
