Tevez sets sights on goal rush
Tevez is keen to get off the mark on Thursday night when City face Timisoara in the Europa League play-off first leg match in Romania. He failed to find the net against Tottenham on Saturday, in a game which ended in a 0-0 draw, after scoring 29 goals in all competitions for City last season. Tevez said: "As a striker, every year you set targets. I hope I can score more goals this season." The Argentina international, who helped Manchester United win the Champions League, is proud to wear the armband in the blue corner of the city. "I am very happy, " he explained. "I have to say thank you to the manager (Roberto Mancini) and the players. "All games and all competitions are very important to me. I hope to win a trophy for City." Tevez is looking forward to linking up with Mario Balotelli following the 20-year-old striker's arrival from Inter Milan. Balotelli could be handed his debut after his registration was confirmed by UEFA on the day of the deadline. Tevez said: "Mario is an excellent player. I know about him from his time at Inter Milan, where he played well." Goalkeeper Joe Hart will retain his place ahead of Shay Given but City will be without summer signings Aleksander Kolarov and Jerome Boateng. Former Lazio left-back Kolarov damaged ankle ligaments at White Hart Lane and could be out for a month to six weeks. Boateng, who arrived from Hamburg, is likely to be out of action for a fortnight after the defender suffered a deep cut on the inside of his knee. City boss Mancini believes they have the squad to gain success at home and abroad. He said: "The Europa League is very important for me, the players and the supporters. "We play all games to win no matter the competition. But this match will be tough as it is our first game and we are away from home." Timisoara's top players from last season have a special incentive to reach the group stages - they are on a bonus of 100,000 Euros each. Coach Vladimir Petrovic said: "When big teams play against smaller teams they need to show just as much concentration in that game. Manchester City better not under-estimate us."
