Swans swoop for keeper Moreira
The Premier League new boys have been searching for a new goalkeeper since Dorus de Vries chose to leave for Wolves on a free transfer last month. They had been linked with a move for Poland international Grzegorz Sandomierski but have instead moved for Moreira, who has a solitary Portugal cap to his name. The 29-year-old has told the Swansea website: "It's my dream to play in the Premier League and I am delighted to get my chance with Swansea City. "I have been at Benfica for 12 years and, while it will be hard to leave, I need a new challenge in my career. "I'd like to thank the Benfica supporters, who have been fantastic to me over the years, but I think they will understand my decision." Moreira will return to Portugal but will be back in south Wales on Monday to meet his new team-mates and undergo his medical. He made 148 appearances for Benfica, winning two league titles, a Portuguese Cup, three consecutive Portuguese league cups and a Portuguese Super Cup, but he found first-team opportunities limited during the past season. He was selected by Luiz Felipe Scolari for Portugal's Euro 2004 campaign, but did not make an appearance as the hosts lost in the final to Greece. Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers will hope Moreira can fill the void left by De Vries' departure, and the Portuguese has revealed he likes what he has seen of his new club, including watching their play-off success against Reading on the internet. "I believe the experience I have gained at such a big club as Benfica and with Portugal will help me achieve success in the Premier League with Swansea," he said. "I've had very good conversations with the manager and the chairman (Huw Jenkins) and had a good look around Swansea and the stadium, which is beautiful. "I watched Swansea's game at Wembley against Reading on the internet and I was very impressed. I can't wait to get started." Assuming he completes his medical, Moreira will become Rodgers' third signing of the summer following the arrivals of Danny Graham and Steven Caulker.
