Gordon Strachan has left Middlesbrough after winning fewer than a third of his matches in a year as manager of the League Championship club.

Middlesbrough started the season among the favorites to be promoted to the Premier League but is 20th in the 24-team second tier after taking just one point from the past four games.

Strachan led Celtic to three straight league titles and three more trophies in his native Scotland before quitting the Glasgow club in May 2009.

He joined Middlesbrough on a four-year contract in October last year but won just 13 of 46 games.
