Spurs linked with Friedel move
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has been linked with a move for in-demand Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Friedel.
Redknapp is set to draw up a short-list of candidates to replace his current first choice, Heurelho Gomes, following an inconsistent campaign.
Birmingham's Ben Foster and Manchester City's Shay Given are also in the frame, along with Ajax and Holland star Maarten Stekelenberg.
But when asked about suggestions that he was keen on signing Friedel, whose contract at Villa expires in the summer, he said: "He's a very good keeper, but there are a few clubs in for him. Liverpool are in for him, West Brom too. It's interesting. We'll have to see where we go."
Meanwhile, Villa Caretaker boss Gary McAllister has denied the rumours and has instead encouraged the American, who celebrated his 40th birthday this week, to remain at the club.
Friedel currently hold the Premier League consecutive appearance record and McAllister is hopeful he will extend the 275 it will reach against Liverpool today.
McAllister told The Mirror: "Taking into consideration the type of season this has been for us then Brad has been a fantastic pro and he's also been a very good keeper.
"He's proved that throughout his time here, although that isn't new because I played with him at Liverpool and maybe he was a wee bit unlucky not to get more games there.
"The offer of a new contract is a reward for what he's done, and we certainly hope this is not his farewell, otherwise we wouldn't be offering it to him.
"Because of his age his schedule is different from other keepers, but he's a guy that knows how to manage his training. You put it all together and he is a top, top player."
