Sporting Lisbon's offseason overhaul is still to show results after drawing 0-0 at Beira Mar on Sunday for its second straight stalemate in the Portuguese league.

Despite a new coach and 14 new players, the Lisbon-based team has scored just one goal in two matches.

''We had a poor start and played a very bad first half,'' Sporting defender Joao Pereira said. ''We deserved to win with our effort in the second half. Once again we failed to finish. We lack our scoring touch.''

Elsewhere, Ederzito Macedo scored his second goal of the campaign as Academica won 1-0 over Rio Ave for its second consecutive victory.

Braga scored twice in the second half to beat Maritimo 2-0 for its first win of the season.

Elderson Echiejile put Braga in front with a 47th-minute header, and Brazilian striker Lima sealed the win with a free kick in the 61st.

Pacos Ferreira downed Leiria 2-1 from goals by substitutes Lorenzo Melgarejo and Eridson Mendes.

Earlier, defending champion FC Porto won its second match thanks to Hulk's double in a 3-1 comeback win against promoted Gil Vicente. Benfica beat promoted Feirense 3-1.

Olhanense hosts Setubal on Monday, while Nacional plays Guimaraes on Sept. 4.
