Solo and Heath attending US training camp
Goalkeeper Hope Solo and midfielder Tobin Heath are returning to the U.S. women's soccer team following injuries.
Solo had shoulder surgery in September. She will participate in light training but has not been cleared to play. Heath has been out since July 2009 because of illness and an ankle injury.
They are among 18 players who will attend a Jan. 8-13 training camp at Carson, Calif.
The U.S. Soccer Federation said Monday that 15 players will be selected from the camp and go to a four-nations tournament in China next month along with eight veterans given time off.
Those veterns are: Shannon Boxx, Rachel Buehler, Amy LePeilbet, Carli Lloyd, Heather Mitts, Heather O'Reilly, Christie Rampone and Abby Wambach.
Midfielders Jordan Angeli, Meghan Klingenberg and Kristie Mewis will be attending a national team camp for the first time.
In China, the U.S. plays Sweden on Jan. 21, Canada on Jan. 23 and China on Jan. 25. The Americans are preparing for the Women's World Cup, where they have first-round matches against North Korea on June 28, Colombia on July 2 and Sweden on July 6.
