Senegal resolves sports ministry row
Senegal coach Amara Traore has named his 23-man squad for next month's African Cup of Nations after the football federation resolved a dispute with the sports ministry that threatened the country's tournament preparations.
Traore included Newcastle striker Demba Ba and Lille forward Moussa Sow in Tuesday's selection after federation and ministry officials met to end a standoff that centered on the coach's new contract and the team's budget for the tournament.
The Senegalese Football Federation last week cut off contact with the ministry after delays over a new contract for Traore.
Traore said Tuesday his new deal was settled and Senegal would play friendly matches against Sudan and Tunisia before the Jan. 21-Feb. 12 competition.
Senegal face Guinea, Zambia and Libya in Group A.
