The Scottish Football Association says it will do everything possible to avert a strike by referees.

Following heavy criticism of their recent performances from clubs, all 31 of the category one officials present at a meeting of the Scottish Senior Referees Association on Sunday voted in favor of refusing appointments for the upcoming weekend. Two other referees were absent.

SFA president George Peat on Monday described the planned industrial action as a "sad day for Scottish football".

Peat says the SFA "will do everything we possibly can to broker a deal before the weekend because it's obviously important that officials are on duty on Saturday and Sunday."
