Wayne Rooney admits the injury he sustained against Fulham will keep him out 'for a while' but insists his badly gashed leg will be 'OK'.

The Manchester United striker endured an afternoon to forget against the Cottagers as he started on the game on the bench and failed to finish it after being introduced as a second half substitute.

Rooney's cameo appearance was brought to an abrupt halt in stoppage time after he was caught by Fulham striker Hugo Rodallega.

The Colombia striker landed on Rooney studs first after the United frontman attempted to block a wayward shot.

A nasty cut forced the England international from the field on a stretcher and led Sir Alex Ferguson to concede afterwards that he was likely to be sidelined for up to a month.

Rooney has refused to speculate on the length of his enforced absence, but took to Twitter on Tuesday to reassure United supporters that the injury is not as bad as it looked.

"Gutted to be out for a while but my leg will be ok which is the main thing," he posted on his personal account.
