Forensic tests have reportedly revealed that Livorno midfielder Piermario Morosini died from an inherited heart disease.
Morosini collapsed and died during Livorno's Serie B match at Pescara on April 14. An autopsy on the body later proved inconclusive.
Further tests have been carried out on samples taken from the body, and Italian news agency ANSA reported on Monday that the cause of death was an arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy.
The disease, a recognized cause of sudden death in young people, is an inherited heart muscle disorder in which damaged areas of the heart are gradually replaced by scar tissue and fat.
